The Bureau of Planning & Sustainability's Urban Design Studio seeks a temporary intern.

  • Temporary production intern
  • Expected employment period from June 2017 through December 2017, with possible extension
  • $12 to $15 an hour
  • Anticipated 20-35 hours a week

About the Position

This is largely a production position that will support Urban Design Studio staff in their work, primarily utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite package and Google Sketchup software systems, among others. Graphics produced will be used in a variety of visual materials including posters, maps, illustrations, animations for presentations, and documents.  The graphics will express urban design concepts and issues at may different scales  -  the city and region, neighborhoods and districts, as well as streets, sidewalks, sites and buildings.  This position also works closely with the bureau's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) department and development and production of two and three dimensional graphics.

Additional information

Anticipated dates of employment for this position are between June 2017 and December 2017, with the possibility of an extension through June 2018.  This is a temporary position that does not accrue sick, vacation or holiday leave; will not be eligible for health, disability or other employee benefits; and will not accrue seniority or have bumping rights.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite software package; specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Google Sketchup
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS software
  • Demonstrated efficiency and efficacy in moving files among these software packages
  • Ability to work in a team environment, allocate time to tasks effectively, and meet deadlines

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Hand drawing, perspective rendering
  • Experience with 3D digital rendering software
  • Data collection, analysis and graphic representation
  • Professional experience in planning and/or design fields, including architecture, landscape architecture, urban design or planning
  • Working knowledge of urban design theory, principles and practices
  • Proficiency writing short memos and/or blog posts
  • Experience with photography and/or videography and Adobe Premiere
